The Hastings Brass at Elsing, Norfolk

In 1408 Sir Edward Hastings asked that a court used the evidence on his ancestor's tomb as part of a case he was defending. The result was that we have today a detailed description of the memorial brass as it was in those days. It is regarded as one of the most magnificent brasses ever produced, apparently unique in its use of glass as an enhancement.

Ken Mourin details his research into the brass, helping the appreciation of its beauty and opening up further questions to ponder. Detailed drawings, coloured illustrations and family details all contribute to our understanding of the Hastings family.

Heraldic Miscellanea Part One

The papers collected together in this book were first published in The Norfolk Standard, the journal of the Norfolk Herladry Society. They contain a wealth of information not otherwise easily available, not only about Norfolk Heraldry but also of more general interest, the product of an earlier generation of expert heraldists.

As well as bringing the artilces together, the opportunity has been taken to link up material researched and reported over a period of time. There was also the chance to bring together queries and answers, often separated by a period of moths in the originall publication.
